The Fund for International Rivers (FIR) was established in 2006 by the board of directors of International Rivers. FIR is a "Supporting Organization" for International Rivers as defined under Section 509(a)3 of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.
The mission of the FIR is to increase the effectiveness of International Rivers by providing financial support that enhances the long-term stability and viability of the organization. This would include,
but is not limited to, efforts that increase International Rivers'
public profile, augment fundraising capacity, and launch new
initiatives.
The Yangtze River
Decisions on releases of funds from the FIR to International Rivers
are made on an annual basis by the FIR's board. The board comprises
André Carothers (Chair), Milan Momirov (Treasurer), Leslie Leslie and Paul Strasburg.
Bequests and other gifts to the FIR are tax-deductible per IRS regulations.
