International Day of A(u)ction Against Dams on the Madeira River!
On Monday, December 10th, the Brazilian government will offer the contract to build a $6 billion dam on the Amazon´s principal tributary to private companies, including Suez, Endesa and Odebrecht, in an auction behind closed doors. But you too can take part in this Day of A(u)ction! Teotônio Rapids, Madeira River (Wilson Dias, Agência Brasil)
The Madeira River dams would threaten the river's unique biodiversity, destroying habitat for the spotted jaguar, giant otter, pink dolphin and countless other mammal species, and would affect the land and livelihoods of thousands of river bank dwellers and indigenous people.
Tell the Brazilian government how much you bid for the Amazon´s principal tributary! How much is its biodiversity worth? How much do you offer for the lives of thousands of river bank dwellers and indigenous peoples? How much for the rainforest?
