International Rivers is seeking a Special Event Intern for Rivers for Life: The 3rd International Meeting of Dam-Affected People and Their Allies (RFL3). The intern will work with the RFL3 organizing team to:
Background on RFL3:This meeting, which will be held in October 2010 in Temacapulíín, Mexico, will bring together representatives from hundreds of organizations, dam-affected people, and experts from across the globe to share experiences and information, network, develop collective strategies and strengthen the international movement to protect rivers and human rights. Since the first and second international meetings, much has changed in the dam development and finance industries, and in the international and regional river networks. At this critical time of financial crisis, global warming, and the desperate need for new clean energy sources, this meeting will help the global river protection movement develop joint strategies to confront new challenges and leverage new opportunities. Desired Qualifications:
Compensation:This rewarding internship will be offered May through October 2010, and will be approximately 10-20 hours/week (hours will start on the low end in May and will ramp up towards the meeting in October). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to communicate with activists and environment experts, and be an integral part of a dynamic non-profit office environment in downtown Berkeley. Compensation will include training and $10/hour. The intern may also have the opportunity to travel to Mexico for the meeting, should funding become available.
