Every single one of us needs healthy rivers to sustain a healthy planet, which is why every day the staff of International Rivers works with our partners in this grassroots movement to make that happen. The pressure on the world’s rivers has never been greater:

• A cascade of dams planned for the Mekong and its tributaries threatens major fish migrations that feed tens of millions of people.
• More than 100 large dams planned in the Amazon would impact indigenous communities and jeopardize one of the world’s most important river basins.
• China hopes to approve more hydropower dams in the next five years than any other country has built in its entire history.
• The World Bank, governments and the hydropower industry plan to build hundreds of new dams under the guise of climate change mitigation, even though the changing climate makes dams a riskier investment than ever.
